About LOVE and Napoléon Bonaparte
LOve Letter of Napoléon Bonaparte to Joséphine de Beauharnais, written in 1795
I wake filled with thoughts of you. Your portrait and the intoxicating evening which we spent yesterday have left my senses in turmoil.
Sweet incomparable Josephine, what a strange effect you have on my heart!
Are you angry?
Do I see you looking sad? Are you worried? ...
My soul aches with sorrow, and there can be no rest for your lover; but is there still more in store for me when, yielding to the profound feelings which overwhelm me, I draw from your lips, from your heart a love which consumes me with fire? Ah! it was last night that I fully realized how false an image of you your portrait gives!
You are leaving at noon; I shall see you in three hours.
Until then, mio dolce amor, a thousand kisses; but give me none in return, for they set my blood on fire.
Bonaparte

My Thought:
Like "Death" , "Love" can strike at anybody: the famous or the unknown, the rich or the poor...
Malherbe, a French writer, speaking about Death wrote long time ago, "even the guard who is keeping watch at the gates of the Louvres { Palace} cannot save our kings from it (death)..." ( French version for the French speaking people: Même le garde qui veille aux barrières du Louvres n'en défend point nos rois)
Maybe We Can Say the Same Thing About "Love" !
Want to know more about that "little" man called Napoléon, one of the greatest historical figures of all time according to many? See the movie "Napoleon" played by Yves Montand/Orson Welles and directed by Sacha Guitry. I saw it on Video. It may be now on DVD. A great informative and educational piece!!! I really enjoyed it.
