Waiting in line in front of a restaurant on Mother's Day? Forget it!
Today, May 8, Mother's Day, coming from church, I saw a line of people in line in front of a restaurant on Mother's Day waiting, so they can honor their mothers with a meal! Silly, silly, silly!. Which Mother in her right mind, after spending nine months of misery carrying a baby, would want to spend two, three hours in front of the restaurant before she can eat! Not my mother and my wife!
Some three years ago, my family decided to forget about standing in line in order to find a place to eat on Mother's Day. If you guys out there do not understand where I am coming from, you really crazy...for food. No wonder obesity is going up and up in America. The last time we tried that, we waited for almost 3 hours before we could get to seat for our meals; then the waiter came, asked for our selections; he took him almost another two hours before he could bring our food. And do you know what happen next? My mother did not like the food she picked!
In my mind I said so much for trying to have my Mom have a Happy Mother's Day!
It would have so simple to cook for her, in our own kitchen, with familiar faces all around the table, without the hoopla of a big restaurant!!!
And don't get me wrong, our family like to eat out. But we believe eating out, on a special occasion like Mother's Day, should be a pleasurable moment when everybody is happy, trying in his or her own way, to show to Mom love and appreciation. The day should not be a day of misery where you have your Mom wait two or three hours in line sometime in the sun or the rain or in the cold or in the heat for a meal that we all could have prepared for her in the familial cozyness of our kitchen, in less than thirty minutes... Last year, we went out on Saturday, one day ahead, for our Mother's Day meal, and this year we ate on our own kitchen table, without any waiter around ready to spill some gravy or some hot coffee on my Mom's head or my wife's shoulder.
Happy Mother's Day Moms. I hope it was a very family-oriented one for you all!!!
